Redsunland.vn – Amkor Technology Inc., a global semiconductor packaging and test service provider, inaugurated its $1.6B factory in Bac Ninh province on October 11. The Vietnamese facility is set to become Amkor’s most extensive complex to date, covering 57 acres (23.1 hectares) in Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park.
Becoming Amkor’s most extensive facility
Amkor Technology Việt Nam, located at the Yên Phong II-C in the northern province of Bắc Ninh with a total investment of $1.6 billion by 2035, is one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing plants in Việt Nam. The plant, which will be on a 23-hectare (56.8-acre) plot, is Amkor’s most extensive complex to date, according to a company leader’s report.
The initial phase, with a total investment of $520 million, focuses on providing advanced system-in-package (SiP) assembly and testing solutions, according to the South Korean group.
The group said the factory is among its most advanced facilities worldwide, which will boost the formation and development of Việt Nam’s semiconductor ecosystem. The factory may provide employment to around 10,000 workers once full capacity is reached.
Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, secretary of the province’s Party Committee, said the province considers Amkor’s project a key milestone, which marks the beginning of a new tech project investment wave for Bắc Ninh. — VNS
Investment opportunities in Bac Ninh
Bac Ninh province’s index of industrial production went up 2.38% from August to September, according to provincial data. Notably, the province’s IIP inched up 0.01% from September 2022 to September 2023 after decreases in the previous eight months. However, from January-September, the province’s IIP fell 13.82% year-on-year.
Bac Ninh province, home to global manufacturers such as Foxconn, Samsung and Canon, also attracted 860.9 million USD in foreign direct investment (FDI) from 264 projects in the first nine months of 2023, up 510% year-on-year in terms of capital and 310% regarding project number, according to provincial data.
